Check Garmin Device Firmware

We'll walk you through how to check the firmware version of your Garmin device, which can be useful for troubleshooting purposes.

Occasionally, if an issue is encountered with your Garmin device, you may be asked about its firmware or software version number. We'll show you how to check for the software version number of the most commonly used devices, and where you can find the information for other devices.

The firmware version can be checked in two ways: 1) Directly on the device or 2) Researchers can view the firmware details of connected devices through the Labfront platform.

Check Firmware via Device

To check the firmware of your device:

1. Hold the touchscreen to view the menu

2. Select Settings symbolAbout symbol

3. Select Software > SW Version

1. Press Device menu symbol to view the menu.

2. Select Settings menu symbol > Device information symbol.

3. Select Software > SW

1. From the watch face, hold Letter B symbol.

2. Select  Settings menu symbol > System > About

3. Select Software Version

Check Firmware Via Labfront Dashboard

Researchers can also check the firmware version of connected devices through the Labfront platform. This is often useful when troubleshooting participants' issues.  

Participants tab

  1. Log into Labfront. 
  2. Click the Participants tab.
  3. Look at the Device Type column. The firmware will be in brackets next to the name of the device. You can then check this against the latest version through the Garmin website using this guide.

Adherence Tab

  1. Log into Labfront. 
  2. Click the Adherence tab.
  3. Click on a participant's data to view their details.
  4. Look at the Device Firmware information. You can then check this against the latest version through the Garmin website using this guide.
