# Using a Single Garmin Device with Multiple Participants
## We'll go over the recommended protocol for using the same device with multiple participants in a Labfront study.

##### **Note**
Each new participant created in Labfront counts as one participant, regardless of the device used. For example, using 10 participants on one device still counts as 10 participants.
### Protocol for Using One Device with Multiple Participants
#### 1. Participant 01 - Onboarding and Data Collection
- Participant 01 (P01) follows the [standard onboarding and data collection process](https://help.labfront.com/participant-experience-researcher-guide?hsLang=en).
#### 2. Data Sync and Verification
- Once P01's data collection period has ended, they must perform a [final sync](https://help.labfront.com/sync-data?hsLang=en) using both the Garmin and Labfront app and wait for the confirmation that it was complete.
- The researcher should then check the adherence dashboard and download P01’s data to ensure it has been fully collected.
#### 3. Logging Out
- After data verification, P01 should log out of both Garmin Connect and the Labfront app.
#### 4. Device Reset
- The researcher must reset the device to factory settings ([refer to reset instructions here](https://help.labfront.com/reset-garmin-device-settings?hsLang=en)).
#### 5. Participant 02 - New Participant Setup
- The researcher passes the reset device to Participant 02 (P02).
- P02 follows the [standard onboarding and data collection process](https://help.labfront.com/participant-experience-researcher-guide?hsLang=en). They should log into their own Garmin Connect account (using a different email from P01) and into the Labfront App using the unique auto-generated code provided by Labfront.
##### ❗ Important
Each participant must have a unique Labfront participant account (slot), even when sharing a device. Sharing accounts can lead to data being overwritten or mixed.

### FAQs
#### If the Garmin device is reset, will the participant's data be removed from Labfront?
No, previously collected data will remain on Labfront, as long as you don't actively delete it.
#### Can I reuse a participant account (slot) for different users?
No, once data collection is complete, that participant account should not be reused. Create a new Labfront participant account for each participant to keep data separate. Sharing accounts can cause data to be mixed or unreliable.
To avoid these issues, the best practice is:
- Create a new Labfront participant account for each new participant.
- Connect the participant’s Garmin Connect account to that new Labfront account.
- Re-use the Garmin device if needed (after resetting it), but never re-use a participant account.
#### Can I use the same Garmin account for multiple participants?
No, while you can use the same Garmin device for multiple participants, each participant needs their own Garmin Connect account.
##### **💡 Pro Tip**
To create multiple email addresses, you can use Gmail's "**plus addressing**" trick by adding a "+" followed by any word or characters after your username, before the "@" symbol.
Example: sleep.study**+P01**@labfront.com, sleep.study**+P02**@labfront.com, etc.
